Hidaka and his wife Rie were set to move to Vancouver, Canada and this was his last day of living in Japan. The story opens with the death of a writer named Kunihiko Hidaka. Malice is the first novel in a series to feature Police Detective Kyoichiro Kaga. The Abacus edition was published in 2015 and is translated by Alexander O.
